How to care for your skin in winter

  • 4 min read

It’s common for your skin to change throughout the year, adapting to the seasons and your surroundings. Dehydrated, dry, and dull skin are complaints we often hear in the colder months, and we wanted to talk about how you can adapt your winter skin care routine to address these issues.

By adjusting your skincare routine and paying more attention to hydration, you can help your skin to stay healthy, hydrated, and glowing throughout the winter months.

Winter skincare tips

With the weather changing, your skin’s needs change too. Discover our top skin care tips for winter.

1. Protect your lips

Dry, cracked, and flaky lips – we’ve all been there, especially in winter. It’s important to remember that the skin on your lips is just as important as the skin on the rest of your body – and needs as much care and attention.

The thin skin on your lips needs nourishment and hydration to prevent uncomfortable cracking. Our Lip Balm with Hemp Seed Oil is rich in shea butter and fatty acids to strengthen the skin barrier, and works to hydrate and plump the lips.

Antioxidant-rich to protect from pollutants, the hemp seed oil also helps to protect the skin from environmental aggressors and free radical damage. Toxins from the outside world can easily cause damage to the skin, including UVA and UVB rays, pollution and smoking.

2. Use gentle exfoliators

Dry and flaky skin can become worse in the winter months, but skin can also become tight and sensitive. So while it’s important to exfoliate your skin regularly in the winter months, it’s also important to use scrubs that are kind to your skin and brimming with skin-loving ingredients.

We touched on this in our recent blog on Seasonal Skin Changes, but the cold weather reduces moisture levels in the air, making it harder for your skin to stay hydrated.

Our Citrus Blend Face Scrub is formulated specifically for dry and dehydrated skin, which helps to soothe redness and irritation with rosehip, sweet orange and lemon verbena essential oils.

This multi-award winning scrub buffs away dry, dead skin cells to leave you feeling soft, smooth and glowy. Blended with shea butter to nourish the skin post-scrub, this scrub is made with top-quality Arabica coffee grounds sourced from artisan coffee shops across London.

Your body deserves a gentle scrub, too! Our Coffee Body Scrub with Lemongrass is formulated with sea salt, lime and coconut oil to gently exfoliate and revive dry skin.

This scrub helps to buff away any dry and flaky skin cells, leaving you with gorgeously soft, smooth, and refreshed skin. High in vitamins A and E, this scrub works to brighten the skin and fade dark spots.

3. Use night cream as day cream

Sometimes in winter, your skin craves that little bit of extra nourishment. An easy way to give it just that is to swap out your daytime Face Moisturiser for your Night Cream. Thicker and richer, our unscented overnight moisturiser is intensely nourishing – working to repair and protect the skin.

Formulated with replenishing niacinamide to even out skin tone, hyaluronic acid to hydrate and rosehip oil to promote skin regeneration, this cream is ideal for skin that needs a little bit of extra love.

Made from upcycled blueberries which are rich in vitamin A, the cold-pressed extract included in the formulation protects against blue light and is a source of pro-retinol that works to minimise the signs of ageing skin.

4. Still apply sunscreen

Just because the temperature has dropped, it doesn’t mean that you don’t need to wear your sunscreen. Harmful UV rays can still penetrate through the clouds. Plus, if you’re off to the mountains this ski season, remember that snow reflects most of the UV rays back to you, meaning you get twice the dose of UV.

Opt for a Mineral Sunscreen that is both kind to you and the planet. High-performance to protect against both UVA and UVB rays, our SPF 25 is packed with skin barrier-supporting ingredients to nourish your skin as it protects.

Reef-safe and dermatologically approved, our award-winning mineral sunscreen provides an essential physical defence against premature ageing caused by the sun. Naturally derived non-nano zinc oxide protects the skin whilst powerful antioxidant raspberry seed oil defends against free radical damage.

Formulated using only the highest quality zinc oxide, we ensured over 20+ iterations that this cream seamlessly blends into the skin to leave nothing but a natural glow – no white-cast in sight!

5. Oils will be your best friends

As the cold nights draw in, your skin starts to cry out for both moisture and hydration. This is when using nourishing oils on your skin can give your skin a glowy boost.

Organic Face Oil with Coffee Extract

Using a face oil after moisturising your skin helps to lock in the hydration you’ve added to your skin. A humectant, our Face Oil is 100% oil-based so should be used after cleansing, toning, and moisturising your skin.

Formulated with jojoba, sea buckthorn and rosehip oils, this face oil is dermatologically approved for all skin types to enjoy. Rich in vitamin C, antioxidant-rich coffee and rosehip oils fade dark spots and scars whilst brightening the complexion.

Body Oil with Passion Fruit Oil

This award-winning Body Oil is formulated with luxurious upcycled ingredients, such as natural passion fruit, tangerine, and kumquat oil to help hydrate and nourish the skin. After use, this non-greasy body oil's quick-absorbing characteristics allow it to enhance skin softness and radiance.

Our Body Oil is made with upcycled passion fruit oil to nourish and hydrate the skin. Helping to boost collagen production, the passion fruit oil works to keep skin firm and supple as well as adding a hit of hydration and maintaining skin elasticity.

Formulated alongside nourishing tangerine oil and kumquat oil, this oil is fast-absorbing and non-greasy – as a body oil should be. Protecting the skin barrier, fighting free radicals and boosting collagen production, tangerine oil additionally helps to soothe sensitive skin and has wound healing properties. This makes it ideal for acne-prone skin.
