Peptide Serum Q&A

  • 5 min read

We've been gathering all of YOUR questions since we announced that we'll be launching a new water-based Peptide Serum. Have a read of our responses below - and if you've got any more that remain unanswered, just let us know!

When does it launch?

It launches on 12th September, so soon! Sign up HERE for exclusive early access.

What’s the difference between Face Oil (previously named Serum) and the Peptide Serum?

The Face Oil is a luxurious blend of natural oils, including upcycled coffee oil, jojoba, rosehip, and sea buckthorn. Its rich, oil-based formula provides deep hydration and nourishment, making it particularly beneficial for dry skin. Infused with antioxidants, this face oil is an excellent choice for those looking to fade dark spots and enhance their skincare routine.

The Peptide Serum, on the other hand, is water-based and lighter in texture. Peptides, which are short chains of amino acids, support collagen production, allowing the serum to absorb quickly and effectively. This innovative formula addresses multiple skin concerns, from improving elasticity to boosting collagen and brightening the complexion.

To summarise, the Face Oil focuses on intense hydration and nourishment, while the Peptide Serum offers more targeted anti-ageing and skin-firming benefits. Depending on skin concerns, both can complement each other in a skincare routine.

Can I use the Peptide Serum alongside the Face Oil?

Yes, you can use both in the same routine.

Where in the routine should the Peptide Serum be applied?

After cleansing and toning and before moisturising. We recommend using it after spritzing the face with a thin layer of toner to prep the skin.

My skin is dull and dehydrated, will this help?

If you're concerned about dull, dehydrated skin, this serum is for you. Natural AHAs from upcycled blood orange water and a Vitamin C derivative gently exfoliate, leaving your complexion radiant and revitalised. Niacinamide will help retain optimal levels of hydration throughout the day.

My skin has lost its bounciness / elasticity, will it be good for that?

The tri-peptide complex addresses the loss of elasticity and bounce by mimicking the amino acids naturally present in the skin’s structure. Peptides are among the most effective ingredients for stimulating collagen production and restoring the skin’s natural firmness.

Will this be available on the refill scheme?

Yes.

Will you offer a travel-size so I can try a smaller bottle first?

Yes, a 15ml travel-size will be available to buy from launch.

What is the texture like? I have had water-based serums that feel very sticky on the skin.

The texture is weightless, non-sticky, and water-like, inspired by elegant K-beauty formulations. This Peptide Serum is packed with gentle yet effective ingredients and can be layered with other products, leaving your skin feeling refreshed.

Is this an anti-ageing product?

Yes, our Peptide Serum can be classified as an anti-ageing product due to its effective yet gentle formulation. It targets common signs of ageing, including fine lines, loss of elasticity, and uneven skin tone. Additionally, it offers protection against future environmental damage, thanks to the antioxidant properties of the blood orange water and the upcycled custard apple extract.

What are the active ingredients?

The active ingredients in the Peptide Serum are:

- Niacinamide: Known for its skin-brightening and anti-inflammatory properties.
- 3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid: A more stable, gentle derivative of Vitamin C that helps brighten the complexion and acts as a support to the tripeptide-1 complex.
- Orange Fruit Extract: Often used for its antioxidant and exfoliating properties.
- Upcycled Custard Apple Extract: Known for its antioxidant and skin-balancing properties.
- Tocopherol: Vitamin E, which delivers skin conditioning and protective benefits to the skin.

Is the Peptide Serum safe to use during pregnancy and breastfeeding?

Yes, it has been deemed safe to use for both.

Will the Peptide Serum be caffeine-free?

Yes, it's caffeine-free and allergen-free.

Can I use it on sensitive skin?

Yes, it's dermatologically approved for use on sensitive skin.

Can the Peptide Serum be used morning and night?

Peptides can be used both morning and night, depending on personal needs. However, we recommend using SPF on top in the morning.

What have you rescued and upcycled into it?

We have upcycled custard apple and blood orange water. Both come from the food industry and are extracted from leftover pulp to harness the benefits. Custard apple extract is a skincare wonder ingredient that promotes a harmonious balance for the skin. Acting as a natural adaptogen, this ingredient supports two vital biological systems by reducing inflammation and enhancing the skin's resilience.

The Blood Orange Water used to formulate this serum is upcycled from inedible fractions of fruits from the Mediterranean and otherwise discarded. Its composition is similar to a cell’s physiology and it’s 100% biologically active. Hence, it offers a wide range of benefits compared to simple distilled water, including protection from environmental stressors and pollutants. It also functions as an inflammatory mediator, promoting physiological protection from chemical agents.

Can this be used on acne prone skin?

Yes, the serum has been dermatologically tested and is safe for sensitive skin. It contains no retinol or irritating ingredients, and the vitamin C derivative is well-tolerated by most skin types. However, we recommend doing a patch test on a small area before applying it to the entire face.

Can I pair the Peptide Serum with skincare boosting accessories? (e.g., gua sha, silicone patches)

Yes. The Peptide Serum is fantastic when paired with the benefits of gua sha and silicone patches.

You can shop our Gua Sha facial massage stone here.

What are peptides?

Peptides are small but mighty chains of amino acids, acting as the essential building blocks of vital skin proteins like collagen, elastin, and keratin. These proteins play a key role in keeping your skin firm, smooth, and elastic. In skincare products, peptides are used for their potential to stimulate the production of these proteins, which can help improve the skin's texture, reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and enhance overall skin resilience.

What’s the difference between peptides and retinol?

Peptides and retinol are both popular skincare ingredients, but they serve different functions and have unique benefits:

- Peptides help stimulate the production of proteins like collagen, elastin and keratin which are fundamental to maintaining the skin’s structure and firmness. Peptides promote skin repair, improve texture and are gentle and suitable for most skin types, including sensitive skin.
- Retinol is a form of vitamin A that accelerates cell turnover, promotes collagen production and helps unclog pores. Retinol is effective against signs of ageing but can be irritating, especially for sensitive skin or when used too frequently.

Which is better between peptides and retinol?

Peptides are better for strengthening the skin’s barrier and promoting overall skin health without irritation. They are gentler than retinol and are tolerated by all skin types.
Retinol is more potent for signs of ageing, but requires a period of adjustment due to its potential to cause serious dryness and irritation.

Can I use the Peptide serum alongside retinol?

Overall, peptides and retinol can complement each other, offering instant and long-term benefits.
